Lesson #5 - Jesus the Christ

Oh Jesus, oh Jesus how controversial is your name. Jesus the Christ, son of the living God. How wonderful and glorious is your name.

The one thing that separates all religions from Christianity is Jesus. Christians are the only ones who know the heart that Father God has for us because we know Jesus. And if you have the son, you have the father as well.

Because God so loved the world he sent Jesus. He himself said you are either for me or against me. There is no middle of the road. No fence to straddle. He was given as a gift from a father who loves you.

All the controversy that surrounds religion in this world, is over the fact that God said that all of the human race is dead in our sins and trespasses and we don't believe it. You might be saying, "Sorry to break it to you, but I did get up this morning and breath today. So you see I am not dead."

God says that he has not come to save those that are alive; not at all. He says that he has come to save the dead and to give them life which is eternal.

The most common question we ask is, "Is this person or are these people going to hell?" When we ask that question we really are asking, "Will people that are alive be condemned to death if they don't accept Christ as Savior?" Don't answer just yet.

The natural thing to assume is that we are alive and then if we don't accept Christ we will be condemned to death. God is saying the opposite, to Him you are the walking dead and if you don't accept Christ you will stay dead. Christ is the only one who gives eternal life.

To correctly answer the question we need to ask it another way. Are the walking dead going to hell if they refuse the gift of life, which is Jesus Christ? Now you can answer, yes. In the eyes of God your current state of being, is death. Again, He has declared the human race dead in their sins and trespasses. He has declared that you have fallen short of His glory. Therefore, His wrath is coming on mankind and this earth. The only way to be restored to glory is in Christ Jesus.

That is something that you cannot change because it wasn't your decision in the first place. You have no power to control what is happening. But God in His mercy has given you one way out and that is Jesus.

Name one other person in the history of the world who says that they died because they loved you. Name one that says they have come to save you. Name one that says that they are the Son of God. Name one who says they came back to life for you and will return for you. Name one that gives love freely and gives peace that the world cannot give. If you were to find your car careening off of the road would you seriously call out to any one other that God himself?

That's why it means so much to everyone. It's easier to say that you don't believe in God until death is staring you in the face. Because, then what is really in your heart matters like it may have never mattered before.

If Christ has no real purpose then why so much controversy? I don't believe in Santa Claus. I refuse to include him in my celebration of the birth of Christ. Although I might state that as a fact, I don't find myself wanting to argue about it or have debates or discussions over it or even care for that matter whether anyone else doesn't like it. So why so much talk about Christ by those who don't believe?

That being said even Christians are in love with a perfect stranger. Why should you read your Bible? Because he is in it; real and alive and speaking to you. Whispering words of love and comfort, strength and courage. He says that he is the truth itself. Read it and search for him with all of your heart. He is altogether lovely. Full of grace.

I was looking for Jesus, and Pastor Prince was sent. He opens his mouth and the Spirit speaks and gives instruction and I fell in love with my Savior. Pastor Prince has answered the call of God. Use the Words of life to help you grab hold of your newness of life and to help you walk in the Spirit.

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father even so we also should walk in newness of life. Rom 6:4

So let's take a look at what the Bible has to say about Christ. We will read about his humanity, his priesthood and his deity.

Each passage is a full chapter. If your Bible versus' don't match up then make sure to read the entire chapter.

His humanity
Rom 5:12-21  Adam Death/Christ Life
Rom 11:33-36 Doxology
Heb 1:1-14 Son of God/Angels
Heb 2:5-18 Jesus Like his brothers

In his humanity he was given as a gift of life. Just as the 1st Adam plunged all of humanity into death by his disobedience so Christ gives the chance of eternal life by his obedience.

Death came through one man to all mankind and that man came through a woman, therefore, in order for God to conquer the power of death for those who believe in Christ, he also had to come through a woman to give life.

He could have done it any way he wanted to, but he chose only one way to satisfy his wrath.  He  stepped down into his own creation and took the sins of mankind (the cup in the garden) and then had those sins fully punished in the body of Christ, instead of us being punished. That's what it means when it's said that Christ takes away the sins of the world.

God won't be just in punishing the sins of unbelievers if he let's us get away with not having our sins punished. Once our sins had been punished in Christ then God was faithful to remember them no more. That is the only reason we can be forgiven. Our sins have already been tried and punished.

Christ then warns believers to be careful to not fall short of his grace.

Looking diligently lest any man fall short of the grace of God...
 Heb 12:15

Don't, after having your sins forgiven turn back to your former way of acts that lead to death.

His Diety
Heb 3:1-6 Jesus greater than Moses
1John 1:1-4 The Word of life
Jude 24-25 Doxology

I love it when the Bible says that

Christ was a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.Heb 3:6

Be alert and about your father's business. Avoid all that distracts you and lures you into the darkness. Traps and snares have been set for you in this world, but Christ gives instruction to the humble to escape them all.

His Priesthood
Heb 4:14-5:10 Great High Priest
Heb 7:1-10 Melchizedek
Heb 7 11-28 Jesus like Melchizedek
Heb 8:1-13 New Covenant
Heb 9:1-10 Worship
Heb 9 11-28 Blood of Christ
Heb 10:1-18 Blood of Christ

Have faith in what is being said:

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
 Heb 4:2

God explains:

For when there is a change in the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. Heb 7:12

New priesthood, new law, new covenant, new life, new you. Be blessed Be loved.
